HOLDS TENTH ANNUAL CONFERENCE

     The tenth annual conference of the ATWS-South Asia Chapter was held at the Jubilee Memorial Animation center, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, May 14-15, 2005. Chaired by Professor Helen Azariah, the inaugural address was given by Dr. V. P. Kulkarni, former Director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, Thiruvananthapuram. Dr. D. Janaki, a life member of the organization, who was made Vice-Chancellor of the Mother Teressa Women’s University, Kodaikanal, was honored in the session. She was given as citation and Ponnadai by Dr. B. Sobhanan, Treasurer. Dr. K.K. Kusuman, Vice-President, made reference to the sad and unexpected demise of Dr. Isaiah Azariah, Founding Chapter President, and presented a resolution condoling his death. Mrs. P. Vasumathi Devi, Chairperson, Program Committee, welcomed the gathering, and Dr. A.A. Mathukutty, Conference Secretary, proposed a vote of thanks.

    There were six sessions covering “Human Rights and their Violations,” “Child Labor,” “Empowerment of Women,” “ Social Security Problems,” “Tourism in the South East Asian Countries,” “ Progress of Science,” and “Technology and Medicine in India.” The sessions were chaired by Dr. M.S. Ahluwalia, Dr. A. Suryakumari, Dr. C.A. Agarwal, Dr. G. Mohanachandran Nair, Mrs. Neeta Kulkarni, and Adv. Sheriff.

    The valedictory session was presided by Dr. S.M. Mohammed Koya and inaugurated by Dr. S.V. Ramakrishnan. The participants had a very lively exchange of their ideas and experiences during the two day session. Mr. V. Satheesh proposed a vote of thanks.
